Relaxers, Early Puberty Linked To Uterine Fibroids

A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology definitely adds a point to the #TeamNatural tally with a published paper from researchers at Boston University linking hair relaxers to uterine fibroid tumors in women and early puberty in young girls. Led by Lauren Wise of Boston University’s Slone Epidemiology Center, scientists followed more than 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found that the two- to three-times higher rate of fibroids among black women may be linked to chemical exposure through scalp lesions and burns resulting from relaxers. Women who got their first menstrual period before the age of 10 were also more likely to have uterine fibroids, and early menstruation may result from hair products black girls are using, according to a separate study published in the Annals of Epidemiology last summer. Three hundred African American, African Caribbean, Hispanic, and White women in New York City were studied. The women’s first menstrual period (menarche) varied anywhere from age 8 to age 19, but African Americans, who were more likely to use straightening and relaxers hair oils, also reached menarche earlier than other racial/ethnic groups. While so far, there is only an association rather than a cause and effect relationship between relaxers, menarche, and fibroid tumors, as Tamika Fletcher, co-owner of Natural Resources salon in Houston, pointed out in a Fox report, the hair care industry isn’t regulated by the FDA so there’s no telling what black women are putting in their hair and how harmful those products may be. These studies go way beyond the damaging effects chemical relaxers may have on one’s hair, women and girls may be damaging their reproductive systems with some of the hair products they use, making it even more critical to know exactly what you’re putting in your hair and in your body.

Lagos Banker Stabbed To Death By Gay Partner

The Lagos State Police Command has started investigation into the murder of a banker, Adindu Ohamara, who was stabbed to death by his suspected homosexual lover in Akoka, Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos State. It was gathered that Ohamara lived in a three-bedroom flat with his elder sister, Flora and one Collins, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos. According to residents, the banker was stabbed repeatedly at his residence located at 26 Obayan Street. Ohamara, who was believed to be a homosexual, was fond of bringing different men, who were also believed to be into same sex relationship, to his home. It was learnt that trouble started when he (Ohamara) decided to get married due to pressure from his family. A resident, who craved anonymity, said after the banker had his wedding introduction, a man, believed to be also a gay came to fight him. He said, “A few weeks ago, Ohamara did his wedding introduction and shortly after that, one man came to the compound to fight him. There was a lot of noise over the issue and even neighbours had to come to settle the matter. “The unidentified man complained that he had been jilted and threatened to deal with Ohamara before he left in anger.” Our correspondent learnt that on April 9, 2013, the banker returned home with a man, who allegedly stabbed him at midnight and left. According to police sources, hours before the incident, Collins went to Oharama’s room where he met the stranger sitting on Oharama’s bed, discussing with him. A domestic worker in the house, who craved anonymity, said he saw the suspect fleeing with a laptop at midnight. He said, “It was a Friday evening. Ohamara came home with the man and they went inside. I went to sleep but at midnight, I saw the man carrying a laptop and then he opened the gate and left. He did not run so I was not suspicious. “Around 4am, Collins and Flora started shouting for help. A neighbour came to help them and they took him into his Toyota Camry and drove to a hospital.” It was learnt that Ohamara was taken to Jonken Hospital from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital Idi Araba where he was confirmed dead. The matter, it was learnt, was...

Glowing Sheep Born In Uruguay

Uruguay is home to a group of fluorescent sheep. The animals glow when ultraviolet light is shined on them. Uruguayan scientists genetically modified sheep to glow under ultra violet light. Photo Credit; Photo News. It isn’t a natural phenomenon but a man made alternative. The sheep were genetically modified. Fluorescent gel, extracted from glowing jellyfish, was implanted in the sheep’s DNA. That modification produced an offspring that glows in the dark. A group of Uruguayan scientists in co-operation with the Pasteur Institute in Montevideo, announced their ‘discovery’ yesterday, saying this is a first for Uruguay. “Never before have sheep been genetically modified in Latin-America,” one scientist said. “The success puts Uruguay at the highest level in the scientific world.” The sheep were born last year October. From the outside they look and act like ordinary sheep. Their only difference is that they glow when being covered with ultra violet light. The scientist says their genetic modification had no real specific purpose other than studying the effect of the method used to introduce foreign genes into the DNA of animals. Prior to this modification, cow genes were modified in Argentina and in Brazil the genes of goats were altered. Both genetic modifications ‘created’ animals that produce human proteins….

Wife Consented To Sex, Then Charged Husband With molestation For Not ''pulling Out''

As it is now, the legal system in the UK has gone haywire; many more will someday be charged with assault for moaning loud and vibrating on their wives during ejaculation.
The London Metro newspaper reported a case recently where a wife charged the husband with molestation for not “pulling out” during sexual intercourse.
"He would still be guilty if he did something she asked him not to, a High Court panel led by England and Wales’ most senior judge decreed. A man would no longer be said to have consent because he ‘deliberately ignored’ the limitations put on sex, it was decided.
The ruling follows a test case involving a wife who claimed her husband broke their agreement by failing to withdraw. The judges backed her, saying she ‘was deprived of choice relating to the crucial feature on which her original consent to intimate intercourse was based’. They added: ‘Accordingly, her consent was negated.’
The couple, who wed under Islamic law, were Intimate after agreeing he would withdraw because she was ‘adamant that she did not want another child’. But the husband went back on his word, making her pregnant. He gave her ‘no chance to object’ and insisted ‘I’ll do what I want’, the panel, led by lord chief justice Lord Judge, heard. Prosecutors originally decided not to charge him with molestation or intimate assault, claiming it would be ‘impossible to prove’ his actions were not ‘spontaneous’. They were told to review their decision after the judges decided it fell ‘within the statutory definition of molestation’. However, Lord Judge said that men who tried in vain to withdraw in time should not be pursued for molestation, adding: ‘These things happen – they always have and they always will. ‘No offence is committed when they do. They underline why withdrawal is not a safe method of contraception.’ The ruling came a day after a small rise in the number of successful molestation prosecutions, was revealed. Campaigners say just 15 per cent of victims report attacks."

Nigerian Woman Attempt Suicide to Evade Deportation

It’s a pity how events are turning out for Nigerians and Nigerians in Diaspora. The socio economic situation back home may have led many into a more traumatizing life in the “wild west”. However, one might not categorically ascertain the extent to which these individuals have been psychologically tortured before they decide to jet out to the ever hostile western nations.
An asylum seeker who is married to a British man is fighting for her life in hospital after an overdose of her medication just days before she was due to be sent back to Nigeria. May Brown, a 19-year-old college student, fled to Britain from her home country three years ago after witnessing her father's murder and being subjected to intimate abuse. She settled in Weymouth, Dorset, where she met her husband, Michael Brown, 12 months ago and the couple married last December.
Mrs Brown, who was a games maker at last summer's Olympics and has two university offers to study law, applied to stay in the UK but despite her marriage her application was rejected.
Mr Brown, 34, said UK Border Agency officials believe their marriage to be a 'sham' with no
'emotional attachment'. His wife was told she would be flown back to Nigeria tomorrow.
She was so distressed at the prospect of returning to her home country she took an overdose of medication. Her mother-in-law, Helen-Claire Brown, found her collapsed on the bathroom floor on Monday morning with a note to her husband saying she 'couldn't live without him'.
The teenager was rushed to the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester where she remains in a coma in intensive care. May wrote: 'I am deeply sorry that I had to go this way, without even saying goodbye.
'The UK immigration has finally driven me insane. They've pushed me too far this time and I can't take the pain any more. 'I don't want a life or a future you won't be part of. I love you so much, more than life itself and can't endure the agony of not being with you. 'Please forgive me for ending it this way. It's better to die with my dignity than be subjected to torture and undignified death back in Nigeria.'
Before she took the overdose, May had said she feared her abusers would kill her if she returned to the African country because she witnessed her father's death. She said: 'If they send me back to Nigeria they are signing my death warrant, they will cut my life short because I will be killed.
'I have found peace with Michael, he gave me a reason to...
